New Player History
Representative Basketball or Rep Ball, is played only on Friday nights around the city of Melbourne and Suburbs. Players will know it's Rep Ball because they play “Home Games” at their Association's stadium and “Away Games” at the opposition team's stadium.
In Rep Ball there is an amount of traveling to play at the away stadiums. Travelling can be as far as Frankston, Eltham, Kilsyth, Sunbury, Keilor, Melton, Geelong. There are also other outer venues teams can travel to. There are a large number of Stadiums mostly in the Eastern Suburbs that are reasonably close to the CBD. In your team’s fixture, you will mostly have short trips around the eastern suburbs and the occasional long trip to say Geelong. Between the away games your team will play at our Home venue MSAC (Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre). Game times are at 6:40pm, 7:40pm, 8:40pm & 9:40pm.
If you played in the U12s for another Rep club and at U18s you now want to come back and play for Melbourne you are still tied to your old Rep club, even if you have not played for a few years.
NOTE:
VJBL RULE: No Representative team/club/Association is allowed to Try Out players without first obtaining a “permit-to-train” form that is signed by a representative from another Association/s to play in the Friday night representative basketball.
This rule can be confusing if you don’t know the different terms used in this rule. Below is a clarification that may assist.
-
The MUVJBL is the Junior Representative teams’ competition administration. Representative teams play only on Friday nights around Melbourne and suburbs. if you are coming to Melbourne from another Associations’ representative team, a permit-to-train form will be needed to be filled in and signed by that Association representative before you can Try Out.
-
Players playing in a domestic competition only; do not need to get a MUVJBL “permit-to-train form”.
-
Players playing for another Association team on Saturdays only; you do not need to get a MUVJBL “permit-to-train form” if you wish to play with any Friday night representative team.
-
Players who have played in years past with another representative team will still need to get a permit-to-train and a clearance if they want to play for their new MUVJBL representative club.
-
Players playing for a domestic club team do not have to give up playing with your Saturday team. At Melbourne, there is no requirement to join any other Associations domestic competition teams.
You need to complete a clearance form, have it signed by your previous club and sent to the VJBL before you can play. (DO NOT send the form to Melbourne Tigers)

Other Issues
Be mindful that this is NOT a domestic basketball club. Coaches and team members in your group want to win. To achieve the goals set by the Coach, players have to attend training regularly and work hard if they are to get more time on the court during games. By joining Melbourne Tigers you are making a commitment to this club for the entire season that runs from Nov 2018 – Aug 2019. Players will need to work hard and do your best. Parents, you need to be reminding your son about this commitment, especially when it’s all too hard and his team is losing. Players, you have made this commitment, now you will need to stick it out.
Should a parent or guardian have concerns relating to their son and / or team, please refer to the Club’s rules and handbooks regarding lines of communication. If you do have issues, speak to the Team Manager, then the Administrator. They can best guide you in how to best resolve the problems that you may have.
Please refer to our club rules and booklets on the club’s website as a guide on how to best approach the Coach or Team Manager in your team.
